Becoming A New Creation Amidst Insanity

Becoming A New Creation Amidst Insanity

Bible Reading 1 Corinthians 5

Key Verse 1 Corinthians 5:17

With the title of this Podcast/Blog being “Temporary Insanity,” I thought it would be fitting to talk a little bit about insanity in the first blog post. Albert Einstein once said that Insanity is doing the same thing over and over expecting a different result. Now, I understand that this isn’t the true definition of insanity and I will never make light of any mental illness but I do want to spend some time talking about this quote or idea.

How many of us are guilty of repeating the same behavior or the same mistakes over and over again hoping for a different outcome?

You diet to lose weight but still choose to binge on that pint of ice cream before bed every night and wonder why the scale won’t move, or worse is moving in the wrong direction.

You want to start saving money but refuse to sacrifice your frivolous spending and then wonder why you always seem to find yourself suffocating in debt and unable to pay bills on time.

You want to manage your time better but will still avoid doing the hard things, choosing to procrastinate until the last minute and still end up rushing to get everything done by the deadline. Making those hard things to deal with even harder.

Whether it’s one of these behaviors or something else, most of us are guilty of falling into old habits after promising ourselves each time will be different.

Why?

We are all searching for something. Something that will fill that empty space in our lives. Whether it be from food, excessive spending, or something else we look to fill this space with all the wrong things.

What we’re yearning for is Jesus. He’s the only one that can fill that space.

2 Corinthians 5:17 says “Therefore if anyone is in Christ the new creation has come, the old one is gone, the new is here!”

The old is gone! When we accept Christ into our lives all those empty spaces are filled with him. We no longer live for ourselves, we live for Christ. That is our greatest desire and where we find our hope and our joy.

We are all sinners. There’s no getting around it on our own. Our sin is what makes us unhappy and what separates us from God. But John 3:16 tells us that God so loved the world that He gave His one and only son (Jesus), that whoever believes in Him, shall not perish but have eternal life. Our salvation is a free gift, we just need to accept it, admit we are sinners, ask for forgiveness, and invite Christ into our life. “For it is by grace you have been saved. Through faith and is not from yourselves. It is the gift of God not by works so that no one can boast.” Ephesians 2:8-9

My friends, don’t let another day go by where you repeat the same self-destructing behavior chasing a joy you’ll never find.  Choose today to become a new creation. Choose today to accept the gift of salvation. Choose today to find the hope, peace, and joy that can only be found in Jesus. Pray with me.

Jesus, Thank you for your sacrifice on the cross. Thank you for taking the punishment for my sin so that I don’t have to. Thank you that even all those years ago you thought of me on the cross. Forgive me for my sins and come into my life. I want to be a new creation in you. I don’t want to fall into the same habits and behaviors I have in the past. Instead, I want to fill those empty spaces with you and live my life for you. Thank you for my salvation. Thank you for my new life.

Amen.

Whether this is the first time you’ve prayed this or you’ve said this prayer before and decided today is the day to recommit your life to Christ, we want to hear from you!  We are family and are here to support and pray for one another. We’re all brothers and sisters here!
